About the Competition

Competition will be held
from July 2nd to July 8th, 2025 in Zagreb, Croatia 
Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, Stjepan Radić Square 4.

Eligibility

Open to violinists of any nationality born on or after January 1st 1995.

Start of online Application Acceptance

Saturday, February 1st, 2025.

Application Deadline

The deadline for online application is March 15th, 2025 at 12 o’clock midnight (CET).

All competitors will receive certificates of participation. 

All prize–winners will receive honorary diplomas.

The prizes will be presented to the winners at the end of the finals.

Online platform

All registered candidates will be presented on the online platform as well as on social media, and the public is invited to vote for the best performances.
It will be possible to follow the competition live on the online platform, and all registered competitors can use these recordings for their own promotion, presentations to concert organizers, competition applications, auditions or masterclasses.

The application form will be available from February 1st 2025

Please enclose along with the application form:

a) a copy of the Applicant’s official documents proving the Applicant’s age,
such as a passport or ID card
b) a short curriculum vitae with the description of their professional career
(education, teachers, titles obtained, professional activities)
c) photograph or high quality image data of the Applicant, taken within six
months of the date of application. Photograph must be high quality, of
700 x 1,000 pixels or higher. Photograph must be free of copyright.
Photographs will be used in official programs, on the competition’s
official website, and for other public relations purposes
d) entry fee of 100 EUR must be paid by PayPal at the time of online
application, or it must be paid into the bank account by bank transfer:

The entry fee is not refundable for any reason.

e) Uploading of video data containing the Applicant’s performance of the
repertoire pieces for the pre–selection stage.

Acceptable file formats are MPEG–2, MOV, AVI, MP4 and AVCHD only.An automatic audio volume control function of the video camera (AGC,ALC, etc.) may not be used.Acceptable video file resolution is 720p or 1080p;The Applicant must upload the video data of his or her performance of allpieces listed for preselection (a, b, c).
The following information shall be included in the filename: the
Applicant’s name in full and the full titles of the chosen pieces. (NO
additional information such as name of accompanist, date/place of
recording, etc. shall be included in the filename).
All pieces of the Applicant’s choice from the above repertoire must be
recorded on the same day, at the same venue.
The video data must be unedited, taken from the same camera angle
throughout and must clearly show the Applicant’s hands and face.
The video data may be excluded from judgment if it is perceived that the
hand movement of the Applicant during his or her performance does not
synchronize with the sound.
The video data must NOT contain, in image or in sound, the name of the
Applicant.

The Vaclav Huml COMPETITION reserves all rights for the radio, TV and
internet broadcasts during the competition without compensation to the
participants. The same applies to any interviews and/or photo opportunities
granted to the media. In case of misunderstandings caused by translation,
the text in Croatian is binding.
The competitors have to report by July 2nd at the latest at the Competition
Head Office, and prove their identity by showing their passports or other
official documents.

Competition Rules

General Rules

All compositions must be performed from memory, with the exception of duo sonatas.

All performances shall be open to the public.
The Jury reserves the right to reduce the length of the performance.
Decisions made by the Jury are irrevocable.
Any incorrect information stated in the application will not be permitted.

Scores

All candidates must use the original scores of the works they perform. The organisers of the competition cannot be held responsible for any fraud by a candidate (public use of illegal copies). Upon arrival in Zagreb, candidates are required to provide the organisers of the competition with a copy of the scores for their free choice pieces (second round and finals).

Registered and selected candidates who are unable to take part in the Competition must inform the organisers immediately.

Accompanists and rehearsals

Accompanists are provided to participants free of charge. Each candidate is also able to use their own accompanist during the second round of the competition on the condition that they do so at their own expense. The free rehearsal time with the accompanist for each candidate is 90 minutes for the 2nd round and 90 minutes for finals.

The organisers of the competition reserve the right to modify the rehearsal time according to the number of candidates or under exceptional circumstances. The organisers will inform the candidates of any changes as soon as possible.

The rehearsals with piano and orchestra are private, however, all of the concerts are public.

The complete schedule of the competition includes video submissions and all public events, all of which are recorded.

Welcome, Transportation and Accomodation

The organizer will cover the cost of the accommodation for the finalists only, from the moment they enter the Final Stage.
All other accommodations and travel expenses, however, are the responsibility of the participants.
